HUMBOLDT, Kan.—For the first time in the venue’s 50-year history, racing at Humboldt Speedway was part of the Allen County Fair on Friday. A total of 69 drivers in six different car classes competed throughout the night.

Sixteen Ray’s Metal Depot USRA B-Mods made their way to 'The Hummer' for a pair of heat races and a 16-lap main event. Tim Van Gotten’s busy weekend started on the right path as he found his way to the front for the victory in the first B-Mod prelim with seventh-starting Brian Bolin and Thayer’s Tyler Kidwell in hot pursuit. Lockwood, Missouri’s Russ Niehoff blasted to the front in heat two and scored the win over Liberal driver Matt Rose and Kenton Allen of nearby Chanute, who was substitute driving this week in his brother’s car.

Fort Scott’s Bolin, who was also substitute driving earned the pole position after earning the most passing points for the night from the heat races among the field of USRA B-Mods. Niehoff joined Bolin at the front of the field as the initial green flag flew with Bolin and Russell pacing the field.

An early race series of cautions occurred throughout the first part of the race with Niehoff receiving damage and reporting to the pits after the damage. Unfortunately, Niehoff had made the repairs in his pit stall rather than the designated hot pit and just before green-flag racing resumed Niehoff had to retire from the event.

When racing resumed, Bolin commanded the field for the remaining laps but former USRA B-Mod national champion Andy Bryant, also of Fort Scott, made his way from fifteenth on the starting grid to advance to the second position and one last chance at claiming the win. However, the lap count ran out on Bryant as he settled for the runner-up spot for the second-consecutive week. Bolin claimed the victory ahead of Bryant, sixth-starting Tyler Kidwell in third, fourteenth-starting Cody Jolly in fourth, and Matt Rose in fifth. The win was Bolin’s first main-event victory of the season.

Brian Bolin won the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod feature.

A solid field of 15 USRA Modifieds thrilled the fans with a pair of high-energy heat races to setup the starting grid for the 20-lap main event to close out the night. In earlier heat race battles, Chase Domer, who entered the night with two straight main event wins claimed the opening heat race ahead of Jess Folk, Jr. from last on the field and Mt. Hope, Kansas driver Tad Davis. Long-distance traveler Terry Schultz of Sedalia, Missouri advanced from third on the grid in the second heat race to come away with the win over Allan Broers and Dwight Niehoff in heat two.

Folk, who had been absent from victory lane for a number of years earned the most passing points during USRA Modified heat race action and claimed the pole position alongside Schultz to start the main event. A determined Folk quickly shot out to lead the opening laps and in doing so set a blistering pace leaving Schultz, Domer, Scott Daniels and Chase Sigg to sort out positions in the top five.

A multi-car tangle entering the turn three area in which two cars were tangled together forced a red-flag delay before the race could resume. After the incident was cleaned up racing resumed with Schultz putting some pressure on Folk just after the restart. Meanwhile Domer and two-time Humboldt winner Cody Schniepp also challenged inside the top five.

In the closing laps, the handle on Folk’s car began to go away as Schultz found the low lane in turn three and four to his liking closing to the deck lid of Folk on to try to claim the top spot. However, Schultz’s bid for the win ran out of time as Folk when on to claim the win in front of an enthusiastic crowd as he ended his long drought in victory lane. Schultz finished runner-up for the second week in a row with Domer’s two-week win streak coming to an end in third. Schniepp crossed the line fourth with Davis claiming the fifth position.

Next week, the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) returns to Humbodlt as the USMTS drivers kickoff their Hunt races in a $3,000-to-win main event. USRA B-Mods compete for a $400-to-win payday and Pure Stocks shoot for a $250 top prize while the Sport Compacts race for a $100 payout. Stock Cars have next week off.

Admission prices for Friday, Aug. 4, are $20 for adults, $10 for kids ages 11-16 and children 10 and under are free. All it passes are $35. Things get underway at 7:30 p.m. The season is quickly winding down with Aug. 26 serving as the final points night for the 2016 season.
