Fuqua, Ingram, Claxton victors at Lakeside Speedway

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Darron Fuqua took home the trophy in the USRA Modified feature Friday night at the Lakeside Speedway, but it was far from a walk in the park. From the drop of the green flag Fuqua and Nic Bidinger battled wheel to wheel with Fuqua taking point for the first three laps. Bidinger took over on lap 4 and looked to be all but unstoppable.

Fuqua never let Bidinger get too far ahead and, with the help of some lapped traffic, was able to go bumper to bumper with him. Then on lap 16 Fuqua regained the lead and never was challenged again.

With Bidinger finishing second, Jared Stiens ran consistly in the top four and found himself holding off Kerry Davis for third. Davis got the hard charger award, starting last and finishing fourth.

Mark Schafman rounded out the top five at the end of the 25-lap event.

The USRA B-Mod feature was equally entertaining as Yancy Shepard took early command of the 15-lap feature and held off several others. First it was Shadren Turner and then Jake Neal and then Gene Claxton. Yancy successfully held his post for the first six laps until Neal got the advantage.

Newcomer Neal wasn’t able to hold off Lakeside veteran Claxton, who only allowed Neal to lead lap 8. Claxton took over from that point and, despite serious contenders Chad Clancy, Shepard and Neal, went on to win his first race of the season.

Neal finished second with Turner on his tail. Clancy and Doug Keller rounded out the top five.

The USRA Stock Car division continued to impress as the top six ran within several car lengths from each other the entire 15-lap event. Justin Seifert took command early, but John O’Neal Jr. took over on lap 4 and looked as if he might three-peat, but Seifert took over again on lap 11.

Meanwhile, Eddie Ingram was meticulously working his way from his 11th starting spot, picking off drivers one by one. With two to go Ingram was in third and with one to go he was in second. As the checkered flag was dropping he narrowly took the lead and the win. He only led the last 200 feet or so of the race. The victory was his first at Lakeside Speedway and he is now the 13th different driver to win in the class this year.

Seifert and O’Neal finished second and third while Marshall Jewett and Clint Hedge rounded out the top five.
